about

When my dad’s father, David T. Anderson, passed away, I asked if I could have one of his bibles and his everyday shoes. These were his shoes. Although not my size, they fit me. I keep them in my office and slip them on now and then. I know that I am who I am because of those who have gone before me. Because of their lives and prayers.

This album is a collection of my prayers. Prayers that have grown over time in me. Prayers that I often pray for others, as well as for myself. Along the way, each prayer has become so deep that it needed to be sung. And so they became songs. Songs that I have sung and prayed often. They really are my everyday prayers.

Our prayers reveal what’s in us, but they also form us. These prayers do both. They reveal what stirs deep in me, but also what I long to be true of me.

But they aren’t just private prayers. Most are prayers that have grown in community, for the sake of community. Prayers I’ve prayed with and for many of you.

As the credits reveal, this project wouldn’t have been possible without the very real and humbling gifts of my family – the generosity and encouragement of my parents (keith and bev anderson); the startling creative and musical gifts of my brother (jon anderson) and my wife (janet); and the loving care of my sister-in-law (alyssa) who made sure our kids stayed alive during the recording time. thank you. I pray these songs for each of you often.

To my brother – jon anderson: You know what this album was when we started and what it is now. You’ve fulfilled a dream for me – in making this possible, in making it so rich, and in the simple fact that this is something we did together. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

To my wife - janet: Although I have yet to write you the love song you deserve, I pray these songs for you, and us, constantly. Thank you for being a continual and undeserved answer to my prayers. You are a gift to me, to our kids and to many others. I adore you.

Lastly, I want to thank the communities that have embraced me as their pastor and companion in the journey – parkside community church and ebenezer baptist church. I can’t pray without praying for you. Being a part of you has taught me, and continues to teach me, to pray.

The LORD be with you.
